In this 2-3 hour workshop, secondary school students will delve into African and African American culture, focusing on the interconnected knowledge that shapes our identity and worldview. Students will explore African literature, folklore, and historical narratives, highlighting the resilience and beauty of the African diaspora. They will engage in discussions, reflective writing, and analyze contemporary texts that connect literature to current social issues. Additionally, participants will discover the impressive mathematical achievements of ancient African civilizations and explore how these concepts intersect with culture and history. Through interactive problem-solving and group discussions, students will sharpen their analytical skills and build a strong foundation for understanding

Whether you're new to sewing or have some experience, this 2-hour workshop will teach you important skills to bring your creative ideas to fruition. You'll learn essential sewing techniques, fabric cutting, pattern following, African-inspired designs and techniques, and become more comfortable with your sewing machine. Through crafting fun and useful items, you'll also test your abilities. Additionally, you'll understand sewing pattern language, learn how to cut fabric, and follow instructions. The workshop will also explore cultural identity and history, from Ankara prints to Adinkra symbols.

You will learn about environmental awareness, how to grow and maintain these plants, and cook with fresh flavors. You will also learn how to curate and create a variety of tea blends, tinctures, and useful homemade medicines.
